Alan Harris Bio 7/16/26
Childhood
Alan, a native of Los Angeles grew up in a Christian Methodist family, living alternately between California and Texas. He was a skillful drummer in band and orchestra all through grade school and into college.
Faith
During the Jesus Movement in the 70’s Alan made a solid commitment to Jesus Christ in High School, attended a Discipleship Training School upon graduation and never looked back. Before and during college he worked in the home improvement retail industry, developing a passion for media and marketing. He always loved working with recording and sound equipment
College
The Contemporary Christian Music market was just developing and Alan wanted to participate any way possible. In college he was part of a lively campus fellowship with great musicians and worship. He got involved with the campus radio station and became a DJ. He helped form a campus organization to bring concerts to the college, putting his marketing and management classes to work.
Upon graduation he worked at a local Christian Radio station and was the drummer in a college age performing group. Around this time he met his future wife, Lori, fresh out of Youth With a Mission.
Marriage
Alan and Lori were married a year later, committing their lives to run to the battle for Jesus. Like Alan’s story, their married life has been back and forth from Texas to California. Their synergy of talents has started and ran numerous businesses and organizations, not to mention raising seven children and leading many other young people. Alan ran a utility trailer sales business in Southern California for ten years followed by some home businesses and various smaller jobs.
Catholic and Kerygma
Near the end of the 2000-2010 decade, they heard God’s call to become Catholic and also rejoin with Lori’s YWAM roots. They partnered with Kerygma, a part of YWAM that includes Catholics more openly, proclaiming the Gospel to all people and teaching discipleship to all Christian faiths together. In 2009 they became “Kerygma Texas” and learned how to adapt YWAM style training to the Catholic World in Texas. Kerygma Texas received its 501(c)3 in 2014.
California Here We Come
In 2017 they transferred their lives and ministry back to California again, to the college town of Chico. Here they remain running their current ministry expression “Come And See,” under their Kerygma non-profit, reaching young adults and older adults, proclaiming the Gospel with weekly dinner meetings.
Alan handles all media, advertising, computers, electronics, printing, accounting, and a lot of writing. Their seven children are all over 20 now and none live in California, nor the 7 grandchildren. The government thinks they “retired” but are still going strong every week.
